On 25 May, the Institute for Security Studies celebrated Africa Day by hosting a side-event at the 2010 NPT Review Conference regarding the entry-into-force of the Treaty of Pelindaba, which occurred on 15 July 2009. The event was also sponsored by the government of Nigeria and the Center for Non-Proliferation Studies of the Monterey Institute of International Studies. The organisers discussed the implementation of this Treaty, which has been ratified by 29 of 53 countries. The discussion focused on how the Treaty contributes to international disarmament as well as different challenges for implementation.
